A Gemstone-Inspired Design Hotel: Hôtel l’Opale Noire

Hotel L’Opale Noire is a new four-star hotel in Paris that opened in early 2026. The 30-room boutique property is located in the 7th Arrondissement, a short walk from the Musée d’Orsay and about a 15-minute walk from the Louvre.
The hotel is named after the black opal. Interior designer Thomas Fournier-Concina drew inspiration from the stone’s shifting light and shadow, filling the interiors with warm tones of burnt ochre and crimson accents and soft lighting throughout.
Léa Zeroil designed the custom furniture. Paul Guerlain created a signature scent for the hotel, inspired by the mystery and sensuality of the black opal. The exclusive fragrance features notes of juniper berry, black pepper, incense, and patchouli.
Guest rooms span across six floors, and each room includes a Nespresso machine and a Castalie water bottle. Air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi are also included. Some rooms face the city, while others overlook an interior courtyard. The bathrooms feature Botticino and Rosso Verona marble.
The hotel’s French restaurant Le Boudoir serves breakfast every day and dinner Tuesday through Saturday evenings. The restaurant also has a bar.

Budapest’s Newly Opened Boutique Hotel: WONDER

Boutique hotel WONDER opened in Budapest earlier this year. It’s located on Király Street, in the city center on the edge of the Jewish Quarter, one of Budapest’s most historic neighborhoods. The four-star property occupies a restored historic building, a short walk from the Hungarian State Opera and the Dohány Street Synagogue.
The 106-room property offers a smart TV, minibar, coffee and tea, air conditioning, hair dryer, free Wi-Fi, and a private bathroom in every room. Most feature a king-size or double bed, with deluxe twin rooms also available.
The on-site restaurant, Popolare, serves modern Italian dishes and is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. Downstairs, Coco is a speakeasy-style bar with elevated cocktails and great music in a cozy space.
WONDER is also home to La Pausa, Budapest’s first social day spa. Guests can relax in the sauna, hammam, jacuzzi, or plunge pool. Massages and other treatments can also be booked. Guests can use the swimming pool and fitness center at the nearby Go Active Health Club.

A Restorative Getaway at Luxury Eco Retreat Vila Planinka

Vila Planinka is a 22-room eco retreat located in the Slovenian village of Jezersko. The five-star hotel is tucked away, surrounded by the Slovenian Alps, but it’s easy to get to. It’s about a 30-minute drive from Ljubljana, Slovenia, and two hours from Graz, Austria.
Vila Planinka keeps technology to a minimum to create a peaceful environment. The retreat features open-plan communal areas with Wi-Fi available only in the lobby. Design elements include natural wood, stone, earthy textures, and neutral-toned fabrics.
Each room is uniquely designed and honors the nature and cultural heritage of Jezersko. All rooms feature hardwood flooring and include a TV, desk and telephone, an in-room safe, and a minibar. Daily bed and breakfast for two is included.

Hotels We’ve Booked Ourselves on Booking.com
Nine properties we’ve actually booked and stayed at through Booking.com — from a South Tyrolean treehouse to a Rocco Forte in Munich, a Radisson in Muscat, and lesser-known picks across China and Central Asia. Every one is a stay we’d repeat.
Via Sant’Andrea 22, 39042 Bressanone (Brixen), South Tyrol, Italy · foot of the Plose mountain
A stilted spa hotel built into the pine forest above Bressanone, designed so every room feels like a treehouse — floor-to-ceiling glass, private balconies among the trunks, and a 2,500 sqm spa complex with pools cantilevered into the forest canopy.
Sophienstraße 28, 80333 Munich, Germany · overlooking the Old Botanical Garden, walking distance to Karlsplatz
Rocco Forte’s Munich flagship, opened in 2007 as the first new-build luxury hotel in Munich in decades — a discreet limestone facade fronting the Alter Botanischer Garten, with the group’s signature Olga Polizzi interiors, a Sophia’s Restaurant & Bar, and a 20-meter indoor pool.
4 Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, 67000 Strasbourg, France · Petite France area, short walk from Strasbourg Cathedral
A historic Strasbourg townhouse hotel that joined Marriott’s Autograph Collection after a full restoration — 138 rooms, an in-house spa, and a location in the pedestrian center within a few minutes’ walk of the Cathedral and Petite France’s canal walks.
5 Rue du Prince, 1204 Geneva, Switzerland · Rive district, one street back from Rue du Rhône
A well-located 4-star with 104 rooms right in Geneva’s central shopping district — Rue du Rhône is a minute’s walk, Saint-Pierre Cathedral three, and the Rive tram stop three. Nama, the on-site Mediterranean restaurant, is the reason many guests come back.
Al-Ghubra area, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman · roughly 15 min from Muscat International Airport, close to the Grand Mosque
The Park Inn is Radisson’s dependable mid-luxury base in Muscat — reliable international standards in a city that hasn’t yet developed a boutique-hotel scene at the same scale as its neighbors, well-placed for exploring the Grand Mosque, the Corniche and the road south toward Wadi Shab.
Shaanxi South Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai, China · former French Concession, near Huaihai Middle Road shopping strip
A long-standing 4-star at the northern edge of the former French Concession, well-placed for walking the tree-lined avenues of Xuhui, the shopping stretch of Huaihai Middle Road, and the metro system for reaching the Bund and Pudong in under 20 minutes.
Huanshi East Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, China · central Guangzhou, near Garden Hotel and Guangzhou East railway station
A well-connected central Guangzhou hotel on Huanshi East Road — the main hotel and shopping strip in Yuexiu district — with easy metro access to the Canton Fair grounds, Beijing Road pedestrian street, and the Zhujiang River waterfront.
Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China · central Urumqi, close to the International Grand Bazaar
A comfortable mid-range base in Urumqi — the capital of Xinjiang and the natural launching point for onward travel to Turpan, Kashgar, and the wider Silk Road. Central, close to the Grand Bazaar, and one of the few reliable international-booking-friendly properties in a city where most inventory is domestic-only.
Futing area, western China · exact address worth confirming from your booking confirmation before publish
A high-altitude river-view boutique in western China — the kind of property that shows up on Booking.com’s regional inventory but almost never on international-first aggregators. Booked for the location: views over the river gorge, mountain framing, and a base for onward hiking and cultural stops in the surrounding region.
All addresses and details verified against each hotel’s own site and Booking.com listings. Every property listed is bookable through Booking.com with Genius member pricing (10-20% off) on eligible dates. A few of the smaller Chinese properties are listed under multiple romanized spellings — worth confirming the exact venue name from your booking confirmation before publish.
Booking.com Promo Codes and How to Save Money on Your Stay in 2026
Booking.com rarely issues traditional promo codes, and most codes floating around coupon sites are expired, account-restricted, or unverified. The dependable ways to save at Booking.com are its Genius loyalty program, mobile-only rates, seasonal deals, and its major-sale windows — all of which stack in specific combinations we’ve broken down below.
Genius Loyalty Program — Booking.com’s Main Discount
Genius is Booking.com’s free loyalty program. Once you create an account you’re automatically at Level 1 and start earning discounts on stays and car rentals at participating properties. There are three levels total, and progress is measured in completed bookings (not nights or spend) over a rolling two-year window. Bookings that count toward your progression include hotels, car rentals, taxis, flights, and attractions, according to Booking.com’s own program page.
Once you unlock a level, it’s yours for life — there’s no annual requalification. All discounts apply to the price before taxes and fees. As of 2026, Genius is available at more than 850,000 participating properties worldwide.
Genius Level 1
Automatic when you create a free Booking.com account.
- 10% discount on eligible stays
- 10% off select rental cars
- Flight price alerts in the Booking.com app
Genius Level 2
Complete 5 bookings within a rolling two-year window.
- 10% to 15% discount on eligible stays
- 10% to 15% discount on select rental cars
- Free breakfast on select stays
- Free room upgrades on select stays
- Flight price alerts
Genius Level 3
Complete 15 bookings within a rolling two-year window.
- 10% to 20% discount on eligible stays
- 10% to 15% discount on select rental cars
- Free breakfast on select stays
- Free room upgrades on select stays
- Priority customer support (24/7 access to a live agent)
Look for the blue Genius badge on property listings — that’s the signal a property is participating and your member discount will apply automatically at checkout.
Save 10% or More With Mobile-Only Prices in the App
Some properties on Booking.com set app-exclusive rates that come in at least 10% below their desktop pricing. Eligible listings are marked with a mobile-only price label inside the app, and the discount applies automatically at checkout — no code required. If you’re planning to book on desktop, it’s worth cross-checking the same property in the app first.
Combine Genius Discounts With Property Offers
One of the most useful and least-advertised features of Booking.com: your Genius discount can stack on top of a property’s own promotional offer. For example, if a hotel is already showing a 10% early-booking rate and you’re a Genius Level 3 member, both discounts apply and both come off the pre-tax price. It won’t work for every offer combination, but it works often enough that it’s worth checking your rate as a signed-in Genius member versus a guest.
Seasonal Deals — 15% Off or More
Booking.com runs two verified seasonal campaigns throughout the year, both marked with a highlighted deal tag on the property page. No code required — the discount is applied automatically at checkout.
- Getaway Deals — at least 15% off participating properties (20% off in Asia). For 2026, the window covers bookings made between March 12 and September 30, 2026, for stays between March 26 and September 30, 2026.
- Late Escape Deals — at least 15% off participating properties, typically covering stays from around October through early January. Check the Booking.com deals page in early autumn to confirm the current edition’s dates.
Getaway Deals and Late Escape Deals can be combined with your Genius discount at participating properties, which is the single most reliable way to stack two discounts on the same booking.
Cyber Week and Black Friday
Booking.com typically runs its widest-ranging sale of the year in late November through early December, with six categories of savings that go significantly deeper than the standard Genius or seasonal rates: up to 40% off select accommodations, up to 25% off select car rentals, up to 20% off select attractions, 20% off select airport rides, up to 15% off select flights, and up to $2,000 to spend on board for eligible cruise bookings. If your trip dates are flexible, booking during Cyber Week for stays as far out as the following December is worth planning around.
A Reality Check on Booking.com Promo Codes
If you’ve searched for a Booking.com promo code and landed on a coupon aggregator site, most of what you’ll find is either expired, account-specific, or never worked in the first place. Booking.com’s model is built around discount programs (Genius, seasonal deals, mobile-only rates) rather than public codes, and the discounts you’ll actually receive are almost always applied automatically at checkout when you’re signed into your account and booking an eligible property.
The single most valuable thing you can do is create a free Booking.com account — you’ll immediately unlock Genius Level 1 and 10% off for life on participating stays.
