Whether traveling with work or planning the trip of a lifetime, it’s always better to travel in style. That’s why the writers at Locals Insider usually opt for luxury car rental for better service when not taking luxurious train rides, greater convenience and, of course, superior cars.
We know that choosing a luxury car rental company and figuring out which truly offers the best service can be a hassle.
So, we’ve compiled and compared the top seven luxury car rental companies in the US to make planning your trip just a little bit smoother.
Enterprise
- $ 294 – $3000 / 2 days
- $327.29 to hire a Mercedes-Benz E-class for a two-day trip with pick-up/drop-off at LAX Airport
As the largest car rental company in the US, Enterprise’s luxury car rental service has the largest fleet of premium vehicles and the greatest number of locations. There are 4000+ rental locations across the United States, boasting reliability and excellent service.
Though Enterprise’s fleet includes functional Fords, reliable Renaults, and a more luxurious selection of BMWs and Mercedes, the Exotic Car Collection includes everything from the Jaguar F-type to the Audi A8 to supercars like Lamborghini.
Enterprise also provides a pickup service on the day you collect your chosen vehicle if the location is within 10 miles of your chosen branch.
Instant Luxury Rentals
- $1000 – $6000 / 2 days
- $978 to hire a Mercedes-Benz S-class (W223-generation) for a two-day trip with pick up/drop off at LAX Airport
From Audi to Bugatti, Cadillacs to Lamborghinis, and McLarens to Rolls Royce, Instant Luxury Rentals, a specialist US luxury car rental service, offers a wide range of exotic cars, prestige vehicles, convertibles, and muscle cars.
Compared to other specialist luxury car rental companies (i.e., those that only carry luxury cars), Instant Luxury Rentals has pretty good coverage, with branches in over 40 states and numerous pick-up/drop-off locations in each.
Instant Luxury Rentals has a policy that requires customers to book a minimum rental of at least two days (unless you’re choosing a wedding experience or racing track package), so if you’re looking for a 24-hour rental, this isn’t the best option.
Otherwise, Instant Luxury Rentals strikes the perfect compromise between widespread availability and the caliber of cars offered.
Hertz
- $120 – $600 / 2 days
- $310 to hire a Mercedes E-Class for a two-day trip with pick-up/drop-off at LAX Airport
From the premium to the prestige, Hertz has all the staples you’d expect from a luxury car rental, from BMWs to Porsches to Maserati and Mustangs.
Our writers are fans of Hertz’s Adrenaline Collection, comprised of kitted-out Camaros, Corvettes, Shelbys, and more. With 2,700+ locations across the US, these luxury car rentals are accessible to pretty much anyone. Though admittedly, Hertz doesn’t have the most expansive range of luxury cars on this list.
One of Hertz’s big selling points is that, unlike many other luxury car rental services, the company allows you to pick up the car in one place and drop it off in another – the salvation of anyone planning a one-way trip.
Turo
- $50 – $4000 / 2 days
- $124 to hire a Mercedes-Benz E-class for a two-day trip with pick up/drop off at LAX Airport
Turo operates a bit differently from the other luxury car rental companies we’ve tried. Instead of the go-to-the-rental-branch-and-pick-it-up model, Turo is an app connecting luxury car rental customers to ‘hosts’ who own the vehicles. It’s a bit like AirBnB for luxury car rentals.
Because Turo doesn’t rely on the presence of luxury car rental branches – as it says on their website – you can “rent just about any car, just about anywhere.” This is a huge plus if your trip begins/ends a bit off the beaten path.
Because Turo doesn’t have to pay for the costs of a rental branch and you’re renting directly from the owner, luxury car prices tend to be a bit cheaper than elsewhere.
Sixt
- $100 – $ 5000 / 2 days
- $195.62 to hire a Mercedes-Benz E-class for a two-day trip with pick-up/drop-off at LAX Airport
Born at the onset of WW1, Sixt is the most historical luxury car rental company on this list and operates worldwide, with over 100 locations in the US.
Coincidentally, Sixt also has the largest selection of luxury German cars of any of the luxury car rental companies on this list, so if you’re an Audi, Porsche, or Mercedes-Benz fan, Sixt might be the service for you. In addition to the classic luxury car staples, Sixt boasts a range of sports cars and convertibles.
Sixt is willing to facilitate one-way rentals, but you’ll have to contact the branch where you plan to pick up your chosen vehicle to check that it’s possible.
Starr Luxury Cars
- $800 – $8000 / 2 days
- $736.29 to hire a Mercedes-Benz E-class for a two-day trip with pick-up/drop-off at LAX Airport
The priciest and flashiest luxury and exotic car rental service, Starr Luxury Cars truly lives up to its name.
Of all the companies mentioned, Starr Luxury Cars has the most comprehensive fleet of exotic and luxury cars in several locations, from prestige classics like Rolls Royce to an array of supercars, earning the service a permanent spot in celebrities’ speed dial.
On that note, if you don’t want to drive yourself, Starr Luxury also offers a chauffeur service so you can truly enjoy the luxury car VIP experience.
Unlike some of the more ubiquitous luxury car rental services on this list, Starr Luxury Cars is a little more exclusive in terms of the number of branches it operates.
However, if you want to rent a luxury car in Atlanta, Boston, New York, Chicago, Houston, LA, Las Vegas, Miami, Palm Beach, Orlando, Seattle, or Washington D.C., then Starr Luxury Cars might be the service for you.
Avis
- $110 – $450 / 2 days
- $196.18 to hire a Mercedes-Benz E-class for a two-day trip with pick up/drop off at LAX Airport
While Avis has probably the least comprehensive luxury car collection on this list – vehicles are often exclusive to certain locations, and the options are more limited – it’s still worth mentioning since Avis has many pick-up/drop-off locations in all 50 states. So, no matter where you are, you will likely find a branch near you.
We got our hands on a ’14 Cadillac CTS, and it was loaded with all the luxury features you’d expect. However, it’s worth mentioning that others using Avis have criticized the company for only offering the base model for their luxury car rental offering. Like us here at Locals Insider, many more haven’t had this experience.
