The long stretch of sand that cradles the stunning villas at the Four Seasons Nam Hai has to be one of the world’s best beaches. It’s big enough to feel like it’s all yours and tenaciously tended to by a small army of concierge-hatted cleaners that keep it looking spotless year-round. And now, after an overhaul, a dedicated slice of the beach is home to the newly realised Sol & Sao Bar, the Four Seasons’ Nam Hai resort’s stunning beachside sanctuary. Expect an intriguing mix of Vietnamese and European flavours, as referenced by the name: Sol (sun in Latin) and Sao (star in Vietnamese).
Thoughtfully designed with a sunken beachside terrace and open-air coastal feel, Sol & Sao mirrors the day’s journey. In the morning, it acts as a cafe, serving aromatic Vietnamese coffees and gelato. But as the sun dips below the horizon, the space morphs into a concept cocktail bar. It’s then, when Sol & Sao becomes a refined beachside lounge, lit by flickering lanterns and soundtracked by the waves, that this space really begins to shine.
The Cocktails and Food at Sol & Sao
Sol and Sao’s cocktail menu impresses with a standout collection of 40 Spanish vermouths—Vietnam’s largest—alongside thoughtfully sourced rums from England, France, and Spain. Intriguingly, the menu evolves throughout the day too, with delightful citrus-forward drinks the highlight of the ‘cocktails before sunset’ menu. The evening menu is generally a bit richer, with concoctions such as the Sherry Cobbler, a marriage of maraschino and marmalade and the Old Town, a blend of Sherry, Kahlua and aged rum washed with burned butter.
To accompany your drink, Sol & Sao serves homemade gelato in tropical flavors sprinkled with fresh fruit and coconut flake toppings, alongside house-made syrups, some served in freshly baked brioche. In the evening, Vietnamese-style tapas aims to blend Spanish technique with Vietnamese flavors. You can go for bites like Hoi An chicken satay and of choose tuna tartars, it comes with sriracha mayonnaise.
Sol & Sao is open daily from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm, with afternoon tea from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm and evening snacks from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.
