Phuket has long been one of Thailand’s most celebrated islands, where forested hills tumble down to clear Andaman waters. While many resorts line the shoreline, only a handful offer the rare privilege of direct access to a private beach—secluded stretches of sand where guests can enjoy the sea without the bustle of the island’s busier spots.
The Surin, set on exclusive Pansea Beach, has been an icon since the 1980s, with cottages and villas tucked into tropical hillsides and steps that lead straight down to powdery white sand.
The Naka Island offers complete escape as the only resort on Naka Yai Island, reached by speedboat and ringed with calm, private beaches.
Rosewood Phuket brings a more contemporary, design-forward take on beachfront living, with its villas opening directly onto Emerald Bay.
At the other end of the scale, Thavorn Beach Village stretches across Nakalay Bay, combining private beachfront dining and spa rituals with one of the largest lagoon pools on the island.
Based on research and outstanding reviews, we’ve collated some of the most exceptional resorts, each offering the ultimate luxury: private beach access.

The Surin
- Rooms from $252 per night (Hillside Cottage)

The exclusive Pansea Beach on the west coast of Phuket is home to The Surin. Since opening its doors to guests in 1982, The Surin has undoubtedly made a name for itself. The hotel may have been updated in more recent years following a rebranding, but one thing that remains untouched is the glorious backdrop of powdery white sands and crystal waters of the Andaman Sea.
The resort has 109 spacious and stylish cottages, suites, and pool villas. From $252 a night, you could stay in one of the hillside cottages, but if you’re after something particularly special, book the beach deluxe suite at $870, where you can step right out of the suite and onto the sand.

Enjoy cuisine from three restaurants, poolside dining, a beach bar, or book a private romantic beach dinner with local food and a bottle of champagne for $618 for two. Wherever you choose to dine, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea.
To completely unwind, visit the Surin Spa and have a treatment, like the spa’s signature massage, which is customized to your body and mind’s needs. For thrill seekers, the hotel offers a range of water sports.

“Wonderful stay. I had a wonderful stay at The Surin Phuket. The villas are stunning with breathtaking ocean views, and the private beach is truly serene. The staff were warm, attentive, and made everything feel effortless. Perfect for a relaxing getaway in a beautiful, peaceful setting.” Wander0770, TripAdvisor
The Naka Island
- Rooms from $293 a night (Naka Guest Room)

On the eastern coast of Phuket, with sweeping views towards Phang Nga Bay, is The Naka Island, another five-star resort with unmatched privacy. It is the only property on Naka Yai Island.
Step out of your room and right onto the beach with a beachfront view villa for $880 a night, but prices here start at $293 if you choose the guest room. Whichever accommodations you choose, you can expect top-tier chic décor.

Getting to the resort is an experience in itself; you arrive by speedboat. The venue offers some fantastic excursions, like private Mangrove Kayaking for $21 per person. You can also visit the recreation and leisure center for a garden tour or bird watching.
It would, however, be entirely understandable never to want to leave the resort. So, you can head to the spa to use the steam room, sauna, or ice room, or book a treatment. If you’re sore from all that traveling, the Naka Indigenous Massage might help.

You don’t have to venture far to find delicious food here; there’s something for everybody’s taste buds. My Grill serves steaks from Australia and locally sourced seafood, Tonsai Restaurant has local Thai cuisine, and the Rum Chapel Restaurant serves blended flavors of the Caribbean and Latin America, all with fresh, local ingredients.

Rosewood Phuket
- Rooms from $1,019 a night (Garden Pool Pavilion)

The five-star resort Rosewood Phuket sits along the shores of the exquisite Emerald Bay. Since opening in 2017, it has earned a reputation as one of Thailand’s most celebrated resorts, winning accolades like Best Beach Resort in Thailand in Travel + Leisure’s Luxury Awards Asia Pacific in 2023.
Rosewood offers guests a range of luxury pavilions and villas, and you can stay here for $1,019 a night. It includes a stylish garden pool pavilion room with a private plunge pool and breakfast.

The resort offers several excursions to explore Phuket, from visiting nearby islands to touring a local temple. But if you want to immerse yourself in the culture without leaving the resort, you can take a Thai culinary class or book a Muay Thai Boxing lesson.

You might be more interested in Rosewood’s Fall into Wellness programme. For $556, you’ll receive a personal wellness consultation and choose four of their 27 classes, from detox massages to sound therapy. Then, you’ll enjoy a two-course meal and a drink.
There are four restaurants and bars on site, serving authentic Thai food, Italian, seafood, and more.

Thavorn Beach Village
- Rooms from $84 a night (Hillside room)

Last but by no means least is Thavorn Beach Village. On a secluded beach in Nakalay Bay, just minutes from Kamala Beach, this resort offers a five-star luxury experience. The resort spans four zones (beach, tropical garden, pool lagoon, and hillside) featuring cottages, rooms, lagoons, and suites. There is even a cable car that runs between hillside rooms and the beach.

To make the most of the private beach, book a romantic private beachfront dinner, where you can choose one of seven themes, like the starry night theme or the cool beach camp theme with a BBQ. You can also dine at one of the resort’s four restaurants for Thai and international cuisine.
For the ultimate pampering, head to the resort’s CHANN Wellness Spa to use the facilities and book a treatment. The spa offers several packages, too, and one feels particularly appropriate for fellow travelers: the Jet Lag Cure Package, which starts at $182. If you fancy something more active, other experiences are available, like diving at Nakalay House Reef or beach sports.
