Uzbekistan is a delightful blend of cultures, with rich Persian, Turkic, Russian, and Islamic influences. This Central Asian gem has become popular for its Silk Road heritage, history, and warm welcome from the locals.
Locals Insider reveals some of the best hotels in the country’s major cities, based on key reviews from discerning travelers.
Ichan Qala, Tashkent
- Rooms from $96 per night (King-Size Room)
- Book now
When you head to Uzbekistan, your journey will likely begin in the vibrant capital. Tashkent is a hub of trendy cafés, restaurants, and luxury hotels, all sprinkled with pockets of rich ancient history. While there are plenty of iconic hotel brands here, like Hyatt and Hilton, some independently owned gems offer the same top-tier service, like Ichan Qala.
While it was only built in 2010, the Ichan Qala was designed in the traditional style of Khiva. The oriental features and courtyard layouts are reminiscent of Silk Road madrasahs. Amongst the glorious architecture are luxurious villas with themed rooms, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a fitness centre, and a treatment room if you need to soothe your muscles from all that traveling.
While the king-size room costs $96 per night, the premium suite is available for $282 a night. It includes a separate bedroom, a living room, and a bathroom with a jacuzzi bath. All the rooms in this complex uphold an elegant and upscale aesthetic.
Each morning, the team serves a buffet with local fresh and dry fruits, and there is an à la carte menu with a wide array of dishes, including the traditional Uzbek Manti at just $6.00 if you want to immerse yourself in the culture.

“Wonderful and charming. Think of all the things you’d like in a boutique hotel: luxurious and comfortable beds; generous toiletries; authentic architecture; good food; local wines; a spa; helpful, attentive staff – the hotel exemplifies all of these. We had a wonderful stay.” Stephen, Booking.com
Mercure Bukhara Old Town Hotel, Bukhara
- Rooms from $142 a night (Single Room)
- Book now
Wandering around Bukhara feels like a time capsule with its narrow alleyways, mudbrick buildings, and centuries-old caravanserais. The pace here is a little slower than the country’s capital and Samarkand, so you might find yourself caught in a dreamy haze of history and charm.
There are plenty of great hotels in Bukhara, but one stands out from the rest: Mercure Bukhara Old Town Hotel, which opened in 2023. Mercure hotels are enjoyed worldwide, but Bukhara’s latest addition sets itself apart.
The building was designed by the celebrated Uzbek architect Zoirsho Klichev. He stuck to his roots and created a traditional Bukhara-style building with a courtyard layout surrounded by authentic Bukhara bricks and handmade ceramics. The interior is beautifully thought out, like the bazaar-inspired lobby with regional mosaics and symbols.
Depending on your mood, there is a lobby bar with cocktails, tea with spices, and coffee, and a restaurant with local cuisine, such as fruit platters, traditional salads, and Uzbek fish and chips. And of course, a luxury hotel stay wouldn’t be complete without a spa session. The tranquil spa is buried beneath the building and offers a peaceful experience, which will hopefully cure you of any jet lag you might face.
If you need only a single room, you can stay here for $142 a night, but if you’re after something a little more special, there are suites available for around $192 a night.
