In recent years, Amsterdam has seen a wave of boutique properties open in historic buildings, along lakesides, and in restored landmarks. Each offers a more personal take on the city, where design and atmosphere matter as much as comfort. These are the new addresses travelers are talking about.

Hotel the Noblemen opened its doors to guests in 2021, and it’s already made its mark on the city, with hundreds of positive reviews online and mentions in some prestigious magazines. The Times recently included Hotel the Noblemen in an article featuring 28 of the Best Hotels in Amsterdam.
This boutique hotel might be new, but its building, dating back to around 1663, is full of history. It even features the Noblemen Museum, with a collection of art and antiques to explore. In the basement is the tranquil spa, which features a sauna, Turkish Hammam, and a bathtub to help you escape the city’s bustle.

De Durgerdam
- Rooms from $404 a night (Classic Room)
- Book now

Also featured in The Times’ Best Hotels in Amsterdam is De Durgerdam, and it doesn’t get much more boutique than a lakeside hotel with only 14 rooms. This stay is ideal if you’re after some peace and quiet away from the center, yet you’re only a 15-minute drive away from the action. The design of this hotel is a perfect blend of Scandinavian minimalism and rustic lakeside charm.
A classic room costs $404 a night, but upgrade to a suite at around $704 with sweeping lakeside or meadow vistas. The on-site restaurant, De Mark, is led by Michelin-starred chefs and serves local, fresh, and seasonal dishes like North Sea Crab, oysters, and chicken with Dutch shrimp. Three courses start at $75, and you can enjoy your food on the decking overlooking the IJmeer lake.

There’s plenty to do near this hotel if you need time away from the city, and the De Durgerdam can help. Veloretti bikes are available to rent if you fancy strolling through the countryside and past traditional Dutch houses. You might try paddleboarding on Lake IJmeer or take a boat ride if you’d feel more comfortable.

Hotel Estheréa

“Unique and stunning hotel. The staff were wonderful, always greeting you with a smile (including the 2 “house kitties”). Great bar, they don’t have a restaurant, but the bar bites were delicious. Coffee and water are always available, and cookies and snacks are occasionally. The location was perfect for walking anywhere in the central Amsterdam area. Janne, TripAdvisor
