Luxury Boutique Hotels in Copenhagen with True Hygge Charm

My Top Luxury Boutique Hotels in Copenhagen with Design & Hygge for 2025

Copenhagen might not be the go-to spot for ultra-modern luxury, but that’s exactly what makes it special. This city brings a true hygge experience (remember that word?), blending royal charm with cozy, timeless spaces that embody the Danish love for comfort and style.

I lived in Copenhagen for 16 years, and now I want to share with you those hidden gems and top local luxury stays that I personally love to sleep in when visiting. Here, you’ll find cozy fireplaces, stylish and unique wine bars (Vinstue90), and a touch of royal atmosphere (especially around Frederiks Kirke), each promising a good sleep and unique stay.

The Best Small Luxury Boutique Hotels in Copenhagen for a Danish Hygge Stay

Villa Copenhagen

Villa Copenhagen
Villa Copenhagen

Location: Tietgensgade 35-39, right near Tivoli Gardens and Copenhagen Central Station, in the former Central Post & Telegraph Head Office.

Villa Copenhagen is a modern luxury hotel with an eye-catching blend of historic architecture and sleek Scandinavian style. The building itself is a beautiful repurposing of Copenhagen’s old post terminal, with design elements that reflect the city’s art deco elegance.

The rooftop pool is a popular feature, but fair warning—it’s often busy and not the coziest for quiet relaxation, especially with kids around. The lobby, on the other hand, is where this hotel shines: it’s spacious, stylish, and often buzzing with local celebrities, athletes, and travelers alike.

Why We Didn’t Include Hotel d’Angleterre in Our Copenhagen Guide

Hotel d’Angleterre makes it onto just about every “best luxury hotels in Copenhagen” list out there, and for good reason—the brand is iconic, and their Christmas decorations are famous. But despite the hype, we chose not to include it in our guide because our own experience there fell short of what we’d hoped for.

Me at Hotel d’Angleterre
Me at Hotel d’Angleterre

We moved from a spacious room at the new 25hours Hotel (next to Round Tower) to d’Angleterre, expecting a “pure luxury” experience. Instead, we were given a surprisingly small room that felt more like a three-star space, yet at a premium rate. When we asked for a room change, we did get a larger one, but it came with a view of the hotel’s inner side and a dusty roof—not quite the luxury view we imagined.

And when we stopped by on a separate visit, hoping to enjoy a glass of champagne with some canapés, we were politely asked to leave the seating area since it’s reserved exclusively for hotel guests, even though there were plenty of empty tables. Our stay was brief, and thankfully just for one night.

Of course, this was our experience—yours could be different. We think d’Angleterre has room to improve, and we’ll wait to see if they do before recommending it as a must-stay.

25Hours Hotel Lobby

By the way, 25hours hotel opened their second hotel on a new Paper Island. This 25hours Hotel Paper Island brings a refreshing, affordable alternative to Copenhagen’s hotel scene with its playful design and communal vibe. Built on the newly transformed Paper Island, this hotel by 25hours combines pioneering harbor-inspired architecture by COBE Architects with an interior that feels like a chic Scandinavian holiday home, thanks to the creative touch of STYLT Trampoli.
