Interestingly, both of these bars inherited their name from Charles H. Baker, the American writer and globe-trotter, who wrote the wonderful, world-spanning guide to drinking around the world: Jigger, Beaker & Glass, but H Bar focuses on the concept of how Charles H. Baker “might host a gathering in Seoul today”.
Crafted Course-style Cocktail Experience at Four Seasons’ H. Bar, Seoul
While the original Charles H Bar is a traditional speakeasy-style spot, ideal for all kinds of Soju-spiked revelry, H Bar is not the kind of bar you head to for spontaneous happy hours. Instead, you’ll need to book ahead to enjoy its thoughtfully choreographed course-style menu (available Thursday to Saturday), served in succession and tailored to the seasons.
The overall concept is rooted in a blend of craftsmanship and ingredient curation, with ingredients sourced locally and shaken into taste-defying concepts through intriguing infusions, ferments, and spherifications. Surprise is a major component, with libations such as “Shampagne”, recreating the flavors of champagne with zero champagne in the mix, instead, utilizing Korean ingredients, while a reinterpretation of Matcha is complemented by flash-frozen herbs and poured over a hand-cut diamond.
