Heymondo Travel Insurance

Best Travel Insurance for Short Trips? Heymondo Review (2026 Guide)

Travel insurance used to be something you’d buy last minute at the airport — more of a box-ticking exercise than a real decision. That’s changed.

In 2026, with flight disruptions, rising healthcare costs abroad, and more people working remotely while traveling, insurance has quietly become one of the smartest parts of your trip planning.

That’s where Heymondo comes in. It’s one of the newer digital-first travel insurance providers, built around a simple idea: manage everything from your phone, get fast support when things go wrong, and avoid the usual paperwork headache.

But does it actually deliver when you need it most — especially if you’re traveling from the US?

Here’s what you need to know before buying a policy.

Heymondo offers two types of health insurance to US-based travelers: single-trip and annual multi-trip. Both offer comprehensive coverage for short vacations or work trips, with decent limits and affordable premiums.

Find out if Heymondo’s travel insurance is a good option for you, and discover the level of coverage you can expect from each of its plans.

What is Heymondo Insurance

Heymondo is a digital travel insurance distributor that sells policies online and through its app, focusing on flexible, app-managed cover for medical emergencies, cancellations, and travel disruption. It does not carry the insurance risk itself. Instead, it partners with established insurers.

In the United States, Heymondo policies are underwritten by Starr Indemnity & Liability Company, part of the wider Starr Companies. This means Starr is the licensed insurer that assumes the financial risk and pays claims, while Heymondo handles distribution and customer experience.

What Heymondo Covers & Who it Works For

Heymondo review

Heymondo offers travel insurance for a single, one-time trip, as well as annual multi-trip policies. Note, though, that the annual multi-trip policy only covers you for a trip of up to 36 days within 12 months.

So, if you’re a digital nomad or an expat, this insurance won’t work for you, as you need a policy that covers continuous stays in another country. In Europe, Heymondo does offer a Long Stay travel insurance policy for digital nomads, but it’s not available to US residents.

Still, if you travel regularly for vacations or work, or if you’re planning trips abroad for up to one month, Heymondo is certainly worth considering.

Heymondo Pricing and Plans: What Level of Coverage Can I Expect?

Heymondo’s annual multi-trip policy is a good option if you’re looking to insure yourself for up to one year’s worth of travel (up to 36 days at a time). The insurance is comprehensive, with high benefit limits, giving you a good level of coverage at this price point. Check the table below to see what’s covered in a standard multi-trip annual plan:

Heymondo Coverage  Cover Limits
Emergency medical and dental expenses  $100,000
Emergency medical evacuation (plus repatriation of remains)  $500,000
Baggage  $2,000
Trip delay  $2,000
Trip cancellation & trip interruption  $3,000
Specialty items (sports equipment, cameras, etc.) $1,000
Adventure sports  ✅
Cruise travel  ✅
Search and rescue  $5,000
Natural disaster evacuation  $15,000
Accidental death  $10,000

You must be 69 or younger to take out an annual Heymondo policy. But the single-trip policies cover people up to 79 years of age – bear this in mind when deciding which to go for.

Based in Europe? Heymondo Long Stay Could Work For You

While Heymondo doesn’t offer its Long Stay policy to US residents, it is available to European digital nomads and expats. The policy is offered for a minimum of 90 days, and you can book worldwide, European, or worldwide excluding the USA coverage.

To give you an example of price, our quote for three months on the road came in at €138.06 ($163). It includes €2,500,000 ($2,948,450) in emergency medical and dental coverage, along with baggage, travel disruption, and some optional extras.

A €200 ($236) deductible applies to all medical expenses, and you can renew your policy after three months before it expires if you are continuing your journey.

Heymondo Pricing Explained: Is It Good Value for Money?

Heymondo offers good value for money in the travel insurance market. We received a quote of $296.00 for the annual-trip policy, which includes all the benefits and limits outlined above.

Regarding the single-trip insurance, we got a quote for a one-week trip to Mexico. The policy cost ranged from $22.04 to $81.94 for the week abroad.

This is because, unlike when you apply for the annual insurance, there are three tiers available for Heymondo’s single plans: Medical, Top, and Premium.

Premium is the most comprehensive and reflects the annual policy, though you get up to $200,000 in emergency medical coverage compared to $100,000.

If you only want medical coverage and aren’t worried about baggage, cancellation, or specialty items, the Medical policy for $22.04 is decent and should give you peace of mind on the road.

Reviews & Ratings: Is Heymondo a Trustworthy Insurer?

Heymondo is a well-regarded insurer, with a Trustpilot score of 4.0/5.0 from 3,260+ reviews. Many verified reviewers praise the company for attentive customer service, particularly relating to adjusting or changing policies, even while abroad.

While reviews relating to claims are a mixed bag, many are positive, highlighting that Heymondo staff are helpful and considerate when dealing with issues. Some reviewers also touch on Heymondo’s quick response times, with most claims receiving an initial response within 24 hours.

Trustpilot ReviewRecently, my airline rescheduled my return flight, which created an issue with the insurance dates. Heymondo handled the situation professionally and efficiently: they refunded the policy I had originally purchased so that I could easily buy a new one with the updated travel dates. The process was smooth and stress-free.” Rosa Perchiazzo, IT

Heymondo App: Receive 24/7 Travel Assistance on the Road

Heymondo travel insurance app review

Before leaving home, download Heymondo’s app, which is free for all iOS and Android users. It’s highly rated, scoring 4.0/5.0 on the App Store and 3.5/5.0 on Google Play.

Our favorite thing about the app is that you can call Heymondo for free, directly from the app, for 24/7 assistance, no matter where you are. There’s also an in-app medical chat feature, where you can contact the Heymondo medical team for real-time support for health-related queries.

When it comes to managing a claim, you can upload documents, invoices, and receipts directly to the Heymondo app. You can also attach photos to support your claim, which speeds up resolution.

Heymondo vs Allianz Global: Which is Better For You?

If you’re based in the United States, Heymondo is the better option if you’re looking for travel insurance cover for your upcoming work trips or vacations. You can get a single-trip or annual trip policy, and the latter covers trips of up to 36 days each.

But if you’re a digital nomad, remote worker, or expat, Allianz’s Global insurance is better. It offers three plans: Care Base, Care Enhanced, and Care Signature, which give you between $1,350,000 and $5,000,000 in medical coverage, alongside several other benefits while you’re away from home.

Allianz Global premiums start at $191 per month for global health coverage, which is in a similar ballpark to other big players in the industry, including AXA and Cigna Global.

Our Verdict: Is Heymondo Insurance a Good Option?

Here’s why we think Heymondo insurance could work well for you:

✅You’re looking for affordable single-trip coverage for an upcoming vacation or work trip

✅You’re keen on an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy, which insures trips of up to 36 days at a time

✅You’d like trip cancellation, baggage loss, and delay benefits included as standard, not as optional add-ons

But you might be better off with an alternative insurer for the following reasons:

❌You’re a digital nomad, remote worker, or expat who requires insurance for more than 36 days at a time

❌You’re over 69 (or over 79 if you’re happy to take a single-trip plan)
