At Locals Insider, we like the kind of places that still feel personal. Small hotels with character, a bit of design thought behind them, and not too many people around. A lot of the “top” boutique hotels are already hyped and crowded — lovely, but the quiet charm is gone.
So we went looking for something different: the new spots. These are hotels that opened recently, before they get too popular. They’re cozy, soulful, and designed with care — the kind of places where you can still hear your own thoughts.
Here’s our guide to the newest boutique hotels in Europe that keep their charm, for now.
TOP 15 New Glamorous Boutique Hotels in Europe
1. Palacio Selecio, Malaga, Spain

Opened in 2020, Palacio Selecio emerged as Malaga’s first luxury boutique hotel. It’s located in the Jewish Quarter at the heart of the Old Town, inside a building that had been derelict for 80 years before Antonio Obrador’s stunning restoration.
Originally known as the Palace del Marques de la Sorna when it was built in 1789, this listed building oozes Andalusian charm and attention to detail.

Accommodations range from standard doubles with courtyard views to palace suites. For unrivalled luxury and downtown views, book into the tower room, the only one on the property’s top floor, with access to a private rooftop terrace. Double rooms start at $317 per night, while suites range from $500 to $700 nightly.

Balusta Restaurant is the property’s main dining option. It proudly serves Andalusian favourites, with prices ranging from $19 to $57 per main.

Every stay at the Brecon is all-inclusive, offering an à la carte breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, supper, and fine wines from Europe and beyond. Seasonal fare is served, with wild mushroom risotto and roast Alpine salmon among the open kitchen favorites.

Formerly a seventeenth-century convent, Nice’s newest hotel opened its doors in June 2024, following a ten-year, $100 million renovation overseen by Valéry Grégo.
Hotel du Couvent is now one of the most characterful properties in southern France, offering 88 bedrooms over a subterranean circuit of thermal pools.

Accommodations range from tastefully decorated, antique-adorned monastic “cells” to simply splendid suites in the newer wings, which offer much more space to relax.
Standard doubles (cells) begin at EUR 837 ($973) per night, while convent suites begin at EUR 1,621 ($1,886) nightly.

An on-site boulangerie delivers mouth-watering morning pastries to the pantry-style eatery, while a laid-back lunch is served in La Guinguette. The evening meal in Le Restaurant du Couvent might just be the best thing about this property.

6. House of Hütter – Münchner Kindl, Munich, Germany

Germany sometimes gets a bad reputation for prioritizing functionality over flair, but the September 2024 opening of Munich’s House of Hütter undeniably bucks this trend.
Described by the owners as a “potpourri of Bavarian flair,” this property’s striking internal color contrasts and exquisite finishings are a far cry from the luxurious grand Germanic concepts elsewhere in this vibrant city.

Accommodations are offered in 16 bespoke rooms across five floors, some with open fireplaces and others with Venetian terrazzo bathrooms. Every room in this adults-only city retreat is unique and distinct from the next, with double “prestige rooms” starting at $775 per night.
There isn’t an on-site restaurant, but the well-stocked bar offers Bavarian beer and a complimentary welcome cocktail on arrival. The helpful hotel staff can arrange anything from a Segway tour of the city center to a beer brewing class in one of southern Germany’s finest breweries.
